I am trying process emissions for Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Coahuila, Chihuahua in 4km resolution.

Q1: Is 4km resolution surrogate file available for 2022v2 platform, as it was for 2022v1?

Q2: Assuming no to above question, I am looking for shapefile or other vector GIS data, referring to [https://gaftp.epa.gov/Air/emismod/2022/v2/spatial\_surrogates/Surrogate\_specifications\_2022v2\_platform\_US\_Can\_Mex.xlsx](https://gaftp.epa.gov/Air/emismod/2022/v2/spatial_surrogates/Surrogate_specifications_2022v2_platform_US_Can_Mex.xlsx) . I am wondering where I can find the updated shapefile such as “SPUD\_CBM\_670\_2022v2” ?

Thank you,

Hi,

We have posted the 4 km 2022v2 platform surrogate files for the CONUS and Mexico to:

[https://gaftp.epa.gov/Air/emismod/2022/v2/spatial\_surrogates/CONUS4\_2022v2\_04apr2025\_surrogates.zip](https://gaftp.epa.gov/Air/emismod/2022/v2/spatial_surrogates/CONUS4_2022v2_04apr2025_surrogates.zip)

I plan to do a similar task and want to create our own spatial surrogate. Could you please let me know where I can download the original shapefiles as input of Spatial Allocator for 2022v2? Thanks!

Thanks for provding the link. One more question, should I use ‘Surrogate Tools DB’ or ‘Spatial Allocator’ to process them?

We currently use SurrogateToolsDB. FYI, we’ll be releasing a new version of the SurrogateToolsDB that is written in python. See @cseppan’s presentation at the upcoming CMAS conference.

HI Karl,

I have downloaded the required shapefiles. Could you let me know where I can find the 2017 control files (such as the CSV files below) for the 2022 platform? Thanks!

control\_variables\_pg.2017.csv shapefile\_catalog\_pg.2017.csv surrogate\_codes.2017.csv surrogate\_generation\_pg.2017.csv surrogate\_specification\_pg.2017.csv

We don’t post the csv files directly. Instead, we post an xlsx workbook containing the data needed to run surrogate tools DB:

[https://gaftp.epa.gov/Air/emismod/2022/v2/spatial\_surrogates/Surrogate\_specifications\_2022v2\_platform\_US\_Can\_Mex.xlsx](https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgaftp.epa.gov%2FAir%2Femismod%2F2022%2Fv2%2Fspatial_surrogates%2FSurrogate_specifications_2022v2_platform_US_Can_Mex.xlsx&data=05%7C02%7CSeltzer.Karl%40epa.gov%7C2ac29091924b4efb22a108df249c64de%7C88b378b367484867acf976aacbeca6a7%7C0%7C0%7C639269926302957800%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=Y%2Fh0VWhHZBm%2FSZAqiwxaW5eo9X5W7gNoRY0ycc6pJPM%3D&reserved=0)

Note the control variables file contains some information specific to your setup, and you may need to download 2020 data for unchanged surrogates. The spreadsheet details the surrogates that have and have not changed.

Great. It is very helpful and I believe I can make my own control files.
One more questions, there are two sets of run scripts in the DB software, pgscripts and pgscritps2017. For 2022v2, which scripts are better to use?

You should use the “pgscripts” directory. “pgscripts2017” contains scripts that are not the latest version.
