Cmv_c1c2_12 error - no-hour specific sources?

Hi there,

I’ve been trying to run the CMV_c1c2 sector within the 2017 platform, but creating emissions for 2021. In the past I have successfully created cmv_c1c2 using the 2016_beta platform, but this is my attempt at integrating the newest emissions.

I have got this error: No hour -specific sources matched the inventory for the time period processed. Attached is the log file associated.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

The 2017 platform uses a new approach of hourly emissions for the year 2017.

The 2016 beta platform did not use that approach and instead had an annual inventory.

You would need to project both the annual and hourly files to run for another year if you wanted to start with 2017 data.

If you are targeting the year 2021, you may instead want to start with the 2019 emissions which use 2020 NEI-based methods.

They are released here: https://gaftp.epa.gov/Air/emismod/2019/2019emissions/

Although these are not comparable back to 2017 – if you care about that.

Thank you for that! For clarification: what does projecting the files to another year mean? Is that a matter of shifting dates or is that modifying the emissions in the cmv input files?

So are you literally trying to run the model for a base year of 2021?

For regulatory analyses we run a base year in the past (e.g., 2016) and future year projections but they use the same historic meteorology, fires, etc.

That is what I mean by projecting the inventory to a later year.

Although we sometimes shift dates by one year if we are using emissions of one year for another nearby year.

Yes I am trying to make a base simulation of 2021, this is not for regulation purposes but just to get the most representative hindcast of a couple months for a WRF-CMAQ run. I inspected the 2019 data and noted the timestamp on the data, so I shifted the dates (by replacing the year in the time stamp), and as a result created the 2019 data → pseudo-2021 data.

It makes sense that the previous 2016_beta version might’ve been easier for my purpose of creating a new year, if it was only based off annual inventories and not the hourly emissions. I notice the cmv premerged files are different in the 2016_beta vs. 2017 platform, so I have just proceeded with this 2017 inventory to keep everything the same for the sake of the merge script.

As a result, with this shift I have created emissions for the cmv sector, but perhaps this is the wrong way to approach this problem?

My domain includes Lake Michigan, hence why I want to make sure I include cmv files, but I will not be studying the lake or shipping emissions directly with this simulation.
