AMET obs data for America in year 2022 and 2023

Hi all,

I’m running WRF-Chem for the year 2022 and 2023. I’m wondering if the AMET obs data for the two years is available? Any help is highly appreciated!

Thank you!

Best,
Yiyue

I have forwarded this request for AMET Observational Data to @wyat.appel, but perhaps what you need is the Meteorology Observational data? Please clarify as to what type of observational data you need for your research application.

Yiyue,

On the meteorology side, observations are automatically downloaded as WRF outputs are opened and looped over each time in the file. Meteorology generally comes from the NOAA MADIS database. Other online datasets like PRISM precip and Shortwave radiation are also built in to be automatically downloaded from those servers.

Chemistry is not as simple, but we can hopefully get the expert in that dataset to inform on the latest years available.

Hello Rob,

Thanks for your reply! Actually, I’m wondering if the PM2.5 composition data is available or not. I know it may take some time to process it but if will be very helpful if some preliminary data can be provided. Thank you!

@wyat.appel is working on cleaning up the 2022 data to put on the google drive. The 2023 data are incomplete at this point, so that data is not yet ready to be shared. We will post the link to the data on the google drive for 2022 when it is available to be downloaded.

This Google Drive now contains data for 2022 (full year), and 2023 (up to June 2023)

Hi Liz,

Thank you so much for the sharing. Unfortunately, I couldn’t download any file from the google drive with the error message: “Download quota exceeded for this file, so you can’t download it at present.” Could you please check from your point if there’s any restriction?

Thank you!

Yiyue

I don’t remember why this error occurs on the google drive. I don’t think it is anything on our end, but I will look into it.

I have also placed a copy of the files on the CMAS Open Data Warehouse at the following link:

https://cmas-amet.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html#AMET/v1.5_example/AQ/aqExample/2000_2023_NAmerican_AQ_Obs_Data/

You can either click on the tar.gz files to download or use the aws command line:
