Generate ozone files from CAMS data for MPAS-CMAQ

Hi CMAS Forum,

I hope you are all doing well during these years.

I’m a graduate student from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I am working on setting up an MPAS-CMAQ simulation for the year 2015 at 120 km resolution, following the structure of the MPAS–CMAQ benchmark (MPAS v7.0 coupled with CMAQ v5.5). According to the benchmark configuration, the MPAS component requires the following input files: initialization file, surface update file, soil nudging file, FDDA file, and stratospheric ozone file. By examining the benchmark source code, scripts and Bullock et al.’s paper, I have been able to generate the initialization, surface update, soil nudging, and FDDA files. (Although the FDDA file I generated appears to have a different structure from the benchmark FDDA file, it contains only four meteorological variables without ozone new fdda :scream:)

At this point, the remaining missing input is the stratospheric ozone file derived from CAMS, which is required to support the MPAS-CMAQ run. Based on the benchmark file attribution, I understand that these files were generated using modified, non-public MPAS code. I am attempting to get ozone file for MPAS-CMAQ by myself and still would like to ask whether there are any available scripts or tools that can be used?

I understand the current situation. I wish you all the best.

Best,
Zhixu

Hi Zhixu,

You are correct that the non-public version of MPAS must be used to generate all the input files. Unfortunately we won’t be to share those ad hoc scripts which were created by my other two colleagues who have retired recently, with you or the general public.

Cheers, David
