Is MPAS-CMAQ with MPAS 8.2.2 expected to be available soon?

Hi, @ lizadams,

The MPAS-Atmosphere Version 8.2.2 was released on September 20, 2024. I would like to inquire about the update schedule for MPAS-CMAQ with the new MPAS 8.2.2 version, as I previously mentioned in this post: MPAS for MPAS-CMAQ.

Additionally, I would like to know if the 60-12-4km multistage refinement meshes, CMAQ inputs as referenced in the MPAS-CMAQ guide, are now available.

Hi Feng,

We are hoping to have CMAQ working with MPAS 8.x in the next few months. There is an issue on the MPAS side when adding our passive tracers to the Registry and this issue is independent of CMAQ coupling. EPA and NCAR are both aware of the PIO pain that comes with MPAS 7, so the update to MPAS 8 is a high priority.

We will test two 60-12-4 km meshes for stability over the next few months. If the configurations are functional then we may be able to share inputs for community involvement. Keep in mind that this is a research grade effort at this time (not intended for regulatory use).
