Engineer II: Grade 34, $68,455.27 - $102,682.91
Engineer III: Grade 36, $75,471.94 - $113,207.91

Location: Maricopa Association of Governments, downtown Phoenix, Arizona.

Work from the MAG office required a minimum of 3 days per week.

The Position
The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) is seeking a high-achieving, team-oriented professional to support air quality modeling efforts in the Environmental Division. Primary duties of this role will include the preparation of emissions, meteorology, and photochemical modeling for inclusion in regional air quality plans and transportation conformity analyses. These activities are undertaken with an emphasis on high quality work, close team-based communication, and responsive service to MAG member agencies and partners.

The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge and skills:

  • Linux shell scripting and programming experience required.
  • Experience with FORTRAN and Python programming desired.
  • Experience in preparing emission inputs and running emissions preprocessors such as SMOKE and Spatial Allocator tool.
  • Experience implementing emissions models such MOVES4, MEGAN, or AEDT.
  • Experience writing SQL queries for data retrieval and manipulation.
  • Experience running meteorological models such as Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF).
  • Experience performing air quality photochemical modeling analyses with CAMx, CMAQ, or WRF-Chem.
  • Experience running Global Atmospheric Chemistry Models such as MOZART, CAM-chem or GEOS-Chem.
  • GIS and MATLAB analysis and programming skills a plus.
  • Experience applying machine learning techniques for data analysis is beneficial.
  • Experience working on team projects.
  • Good communication skills including writing reports, oral presentations, and direct verbal communications.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

Experience And Education
An advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in atmospheric science, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics, meteorology, environmental science, or related quantitative field is preferred. Candidates with Bachelor level degrees and relevant experience may also be considered.

For an Air Quality Engineer II, a minimum of two (2) years of experience in performing meteorological and photochemical transport models, emissions preparation and generation models, and familiarity with computer programming languages, Linux and other operating system environments is required. For an Air Quality Engineer III, a minimum of five (5) years of experience is required.
