Seeking Advice on Optimizing Air Quality Model Configurations

Hi everyone,

I am relatively new to the CMAS Center tools and have been diving into air quality modeling recently. I have started using CMAQ, and while I am getting the hang of it, I feel like I am still missing out on some best practices, especially when it comes to configuring the models for different scenarios.

I would love to hear from those of you with more experience:

  1. What are some common mistakes to avoid when setting up your model configurations?
  2. Are there any resources or tutorials that really helped you when you were starting out?
  3. How do you go about fine-tuning your models for specific pollutants?

Also, I have gone through these resources/articles https://www.cmascenter.org/cmaq/documentation/4.7.1/Operational_Guidance_Document.pdf Mulesoft Interview Questions, however, they are good but I want to learn more from community members.

Also, any tips or tricks that have made your life easier when working with these tools would be greatly appreciated!

Looking forward to learning from you all.

Thanks in advance

The tutorials are now released with each model release, and are available here: CMAQ/DOCS at main · USEPA/CMAQ · GitHub

The best practices for running CMAQ are demonstrated in the benchmark tutorials, the input data and build and run scripts are provided for each model release. We are currently at release version 5.4+.
